
La Junta Rifle Club – Egg Shoot
Event Overview
The Egg Shoot is an exciting precision rifle competition where participants shoot at eggs placed at various distances. The event begins promptly at 9:00 AM with a safety meeting at the clubhouse, followed by shooting that typically lasts about two hours.
Competitors can participate in three different classes based on their rifle type, each with two rounds of competition. The event runs monthly from May through September, with a championship Buckle Shoot in October.

Competition Classes
Rimfire Rifle (Under 18)
Six (6) shots at each distance with one shot at each egg. Competitors receive one (1) extra mulligan shot per round. Maximum scope power is 6x magnification.

*To qualify for the Rimfire you must be under the age of 18 at the time of the first shoot which is located in the shoot schedule. There will be NO exemptions.
Custom & Factory Rifles
Six (6) shots at each distance with one shot at each egg hanging from a string. Mulligan shots available for $5.00 each (maximum 2 per round). Mulligans must be used during the round or they are forfeited (No Refunds).

Custom Rifles: Full custom rifles built by a gunsmith or semi-custom rifles (factory rifles upgraded with new stock, trigger, barrel, etc.)
Factory Rifles: All mass-produced standardized rifles
Rules & Requirements
- ENTRY FEE – Will be $30.00 for each monthly event. To qualify for the buckle shoot which will be held in October, you must attend and participate in at least four (4) of the five (5) other scheduled shoots.
- Eggs will be provided by La Junta Rifle Club to allow uniformity. Since there will be multiple people shooting at the same distances eggs will be dyed with food coloring so that you know what eggs are yours to shoot. There will be 2 colors at each distance and will be assigned before the round begins.
- You may use any type of rifle, caliber, and scope.
- Custom Rifles – Will include Full Custom Rifles which have been built by a gunsmith and Semi-Custom Rifles which are factory rifle that have been upgraded with new stock, trigger, barrel, etc.
- Factory Rifles – Will include all mass-produced standardized rifles
- Rimfire Rifles – Will include all rimfire cartridge rifles that are Factory Rifles
- Max scope power for Rimfire Rifles ONLY will be 6x Magnification
- You must shoot from the bench with the fore stock of the rifle either on the Club-provided shooting bag, your own shooting bag or on your own bipod. The butt of the rifle can rest on a sand bag, peg, and such.
- There will be two (2) benches available for each distance. The benches will be marked for each distance. You’ll have five (5) minutes to setup your bench before shooting. If you fail to setup in the available time allotted it will be considered a scratch at that distance resulting in six (6) missed shots.
- There will be a six (6) minute shooting time limit at each distance. All six (6) shots must be completed during that time limit. If you have mulligan shots and want to use them at that distance, they to must be completed during that six (6) minute time limit at that distance. There will NOT be an opportunity to go back to a previous distance once you have completed it.
- We will have a full firing line with people shooting at different distances. You will draw straws to see what distance you will start at. Shortest straw will start at the closest distance and so on. Once the round is over we will reset the eggs and move to the next distance. If you start on the longest distance you will move to the shortest distance as your next round.
- Any egg that leaks yolk, white, or albumen is considered a ‘hit’. If you graze it and it doesn’t leak, you didn’t hit it.
- Please be sure that your gun is ready to shoot, all sighting in must be completed either on your own time or the provided one (1) hour period prior to the competition The range will be open at 730am the day of each shoot to allow for the sight in period of 730am to 830am.
- We recommend that you bring at least 30 rounds of ammo to complete the course of fire.
- There will be a safety meeting at the club house starting at 835am so we can promptly start shooting at 9am.
- Winner Prizes will be awarded to first place in each class on the final shoot that will be held in October. The winner will be the person that hits the most eggs during the final shoot with the least amount of shots. In the event of a tie, a shoot off will take place until a winner emerges.
